Jim McCullough is a former Blue Springs resident and Blue Springs South High School graduate. He’s a filmmaker whose latest work, “In Captivity,” directed by another Blue Springs South graduate, Jon Abrahams, will be shown at the Cannes Film Festival in France on May 21.

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself and your connection to Blue Springs? I currently produce video and motion graphics for CenturyLink and freelance clients. I write, direct, produce, create special effects and edit films for my passion. I had lived in Blue Springs for 21 years and attended Blue Springs South High School.
2. What made you want to be a filmmaker? Filmmaking is storytelling. Stories permeate every inch of our lives. They feed us courage, fear, despair, hope and everything in between. It’s inspiring to show someone a new perspective of the world by taking them on an emotional yet entertaining journey.
3. What is your latest project about, and where can people see it? “In Captivity” is about an autistic superhero who struggles to save his love. It won Best Film, Best Editing, Best Special Effects and Honorable Mention for Directing in the (Hampton Roads, Va.) 48 Hour International Film Festival and will screen in the Cannes Film Festival May 21. I wrote and created the special effects; the multi-talented Jon Abrahams (also a BSSHS alumnus) directed. You can watch online at www.ignitionfx.com or www.jpixx.com.
